Back online

So after about 4 days, My home internet connection is finally up and working again. Though I haven't noticed any significant difference in the connection speed. I also don't get why of all the people I know with Streamyx, mine was the only one that couldn't connect during the time they were upgrading. Everyone else could at least connect online despite slow speeds. Oh well.

No Internet = Extreme bored

There have been numerous complaints in the past about the lousy internet service from Streamyx, and I guess now's another one since they are in the process of again upgrading their systems making internet life suck for everyone else. Me being the big casualty here since my home connection hasn't been working for the whole friggin' weekend! God knows how much I'm missing out on these 3 days. Hopefully it will be up and running again today, as they said the work should be completed today when I called them up to check last night.

On the bright side, at least it gave me the free time to go through some of the wrestling shows eating up the HD space on my PC, like Big Japan Death Match Wars #70 & #71, featuring an extreme death match where Takashi Sasaki had a stub of nails stuck into his skull! Definately not a spot to watch if your weak hearted.

So like I mentioned, I had a rather boring Saturday as me and Ling just lazed at home, but Sunday was a different ball game as we got up early and headed out church huntin'! Well, not really. We just headed to church to get info on the mandatory marriage councelling & family planning course we have to take if we want to get married, as well as dig up info on the course to convert to Christianity for Ling. After that, we went furniture shopping around town and found some interesting deals. But we won't be getting anything yet since we won't be getting married until sometime next year.

Where to begin?

Last wednesday me and Ling went to watch Monster House at the Star Cineplex. Despite the slow start, I thought it was a rather OK movie, and while the 3DCG sort of looked like PS2 quality CG, the animation was really well done and realistic looking. Much like the Incredibles, I felt this show had the story that could have been made into live action instead of animated, as they more or less did everything in the way it could have been done in live action. A good movie worth checking out in my view.

Thursday I almost forgot about the Rockstar: Supernova finals, but I managed to catch it in time to see the last elimination before they selected the new singer for the band. My pick to win, Dilana, unfortunately became the runner up, with Lucas winning the spot. Supernova says they picked Lucas based on him getting the highest fan voting, and I'm guessing that might be half true considering I think Dilana is better than him and the band would seem weird with her as the singer, and she could actually outshine the other members with her abilities. At least Gilby Clark offered to produce a record for her, and I'll definately be keeping an eye out for it.

We had a rather interesting Saturday evening other than the usual "have dinner, go home watch TV" routine, me and Ling found ourselves in the strange predicament of looking after an abandoned kitten before dropping it off at the Krokop Market on our way to send her home. Now I love animals as much as any hippie, but this kitty was seriously disturbing my sleep for almost a week now with it's constant meowing calling for it's mother who abandoned it and never came back for it. Me and Ling force fed it some milk before dropping it off, so it would at least have some strength to get around and hopefully find a new master.

Puppies, Seafood and ANIMAX

Might be a bit late with this, but about 2 weeks ago my parents bought a new puppy for the house to go along with the other nutjob dachshund we have. The new dog is a Basset Hound puppy my parents picked up from some new pet store. He's about 6 weeks old now, and a real hand full since he's got a tendancey to crap all over the place. It still amazes me how something so small can hold so much crap in it.

Anyways, last week I was sick for most of the week with a big migraine. Not sure why. Luckilly Friday was a public holiday due to it being the TYT's birthday. I got to slack off at home and get some much needed rest, and spent some time with Ling in the evening after feeling better from the rest.
Saturday night I joined Ling for what was technically her company dinner at the Park City Everly hotel, going for the Plates of the Caribbean seafood promotion. Looks like they sort of picked a bad night to go as they were out of lobster, and that was one of the dishes I was looking most forward to! Surprisingly we were there till 10PM, and I sent Ling home with a full belly after that before heading home myself to continue my quest to complete Final Fantasy X-2, which I started playing again after beating Magna Carta: Tears of Blood last week. I'm almost at the end now, and I should be able to finish it by the end of the week.

Also, August 31st wasn't just National Day here in Malaysia, but it also marked the debut of ANIMAX channel here in Malaysia on ASTRO. ANIMAX is a 24hr Japanese anime channel, and it's good to see they've got a good balance of shows to watch throughout the week. I think the only complaint I have is that there aren't any english subs for any of the shows, just BM subs for some of them. And at least we get the choice of either Japanese audio or English audio.

Nice knowin' ya, mate

Steve Irwin 1962 - 2006
I just came accross the shocking news that "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin was killed by a stingray barb through the chest today while filming an underwater documentary. You either loved or hated the Croc Hunter for his daring approach at wildlife documentaries where he jumped in the line of fire with many different and deadly animals, which makes his death at the barb of a stingray sound outrageous when compared to the poisonous snakes and giant crocs he come up against in the past. If you think this is another internet prank, than just run a Yahoo news search and unfortunately you'll see that the news is true. Even the greats slip up every now and then, and unfortunately for Steve Irwin, it cost him his life this time.
Rest in Peace, Steve. And thanks for all the great nature documentaries and spreading awareness of protecting our native wildlife.
